RESIDENTIAL DESIGN:

CRAFTSMAN RESTORATION

(w/ Lorin Hill, Architect)

In the wake of pandemic, a young family bought a charming four bedroom home built in 1915 in the historic Gold Coast neighborhood of Alameda Island. The 2,055 square foot home had ample space, but had not been updated in decades and the parents needed spaces to work from home without intruding into their communal spaces. An existing bedroom which opened directly into the entry foyer was converted into a small office with space for a new coat closet and powder room to serve the entertaining spaces. This provided an opportunity to convert the main floor jack-and-jill bathroom into an ensuite to serve the remaining main floor bedroom. The segmented kitchen was updated and opened to the dining room for better light and flow through the interior hallway. The upper bedrooms were adjusted to fit a new small office between and updates were made to the existing bathroom. The existing walk out basement was finished to include a comfortable family room, guest bedroom and new bath.

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN:

ORINDA RANCH

This +3,000sf Mid-Century ranch overlooking the Orinda Golf Course was in desperate need of an update. The original 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom home was completely dissected by a central hallway and massive fireplace that blocked out any natural light from reaching the internal spaces. We worked with a talented structural engineering team to remove the fireplace and completely open the public portions of the home, creating an easy flow and greater accessibility from one end of the home to the other. All new finishes and fixtures throughout the newly expanded kitchen and bathrooms gave this beautiful, light-filled home the facelift it needed.

PIEDMONT CRAFTSMAN

This two-story Craftsman home in Piedmont was abandoned for years when our clients rescued it. The original kitchen took up little more than a corner of the main floor and shared that with a powder/laundry room. We expanded the back of the house to create more space for the kitchen, opening it to the adjacent dining room and adding a new mudroom at the rear. We relocated the powder room to a more central location and captured previously unused space for a generous pantry. We moved the laundry facilities to a new cabinet upstairs and updated the primary bathroom to give this home the love it so deserved.
